With a long bit of driving to get done today (805km), my brother and I got off to a early start. Leaving Edmonton traffic was light as we had stayed in a hotel on the west side of the city, so we were traveling in the opposite direction of commuter traffic.

Driving to Jasper I remembered to put in the ear plugs I brought, shortly after setting out. Which helped reduce the fatigue from listening to a engine turn at 2500rpm through a droney muffler deleted exhaust. Also note that a 33 year old car with lowered suspension transmits a lot of road noise and bumps into the cabin. The many expansion joints on the road, while not painful were annoying. I would like to say how nice it is to drive with people who know how to properly “keep right, except when passing.”

Arriving in Jasper, we stopped for lunch at Patricia street deli, which was a small hole in the wall that is highly rated. This sandwich shop was lined up out the door, which the staff said was normal for them. The place smelled great. I got a turkey wrap and it was delicious.

Leaing Jasper we stopped at the base of Mt. Robson, we took some pictures and remembered to apply sunscreen. The weather was perfect for driving with the sunroof open.

On the road again we were enjoying the great views, and traffic was still light. We found someone’s collection of truck parked beside the road between Vavenby and Clearwater.

Where the sun was shining the temperature was getting too hot so I closed the sunroof and turned on the A/C, I was worried it wouldn’t work very well because back in Saskatoon it would take a long time to cool down, but moving at speed with a relatively cool interior the A/C was cold immediately.

Ee got stuck behind a couple of slow box trucks but didn’t have to wait long for a passing opportunity. Traffic started getting heavy after Barričre and stayed that way all the way into Kamloops.

In Kamloops we met up with my a guy who is my brother’s friend and my former coworker, with whom we ate supper at Frick and Frack Taphouse. Then we called a family friend, then went over to his house, sitting around the picnic table late in to the night catching up. We also saw that our friend had replaced his old green GMC square body he’d converted to propane, with a GMT800 Silverado 2500. His older truck “The Ghost” was still out and running. In addition to the shovelhead he’s had for 40 years he bought a newer Harley that he’s currently repainting.

Its wild to me that the weather could be warm enough up there to need the AC and meanwhile down here in LA over 1,000 miles south it was cool enough to warrant driving the miata with the top up last night. Spring time I suppose is always going to have wonky weather all over the place. Looks like perfect weather Sat/Sun in Whistler. Hopefully that rain forecasted for your trip back isnt too bad also.

The Valley that we were driving through yesterday is classified as a semi-arid desert. So it's usually warmer then the areas on either side of the mountains.

Ive found popping in some earplugs reduces my driving fatigue on long drives in the e30 or e28

Nice, those trucks are on Holland Dr just west of Vavenby if anyone want to google/street view them, they’ve been there for the 10 years I’ve been in Kamloops. Sometimes they change and move, I’ve even seen a nice Beetle there for a bit.

I drove my lowered J etta up through the I cefields once, the expansion joints were nuts.. I knew my girlfriend/wife was a keeper after that trip.
